WHAT'S IN A WORD?


NOAM CHOMSKY

Noam Chomsky is institute professor emeritus in the MIT Department of Linguistics and Philosophy.
  • ·         He was the first one who makes dysphemistic language famous.
  • ·         Existence of Euphemistic Language.
  • ·         Words have positive and negative connotation.
  • ·         In other words, some words have good or bad reputation.
  • ·         Some words are for formal context and for informal context.
MICHEL FOUCAULT

Michel Foucault (1926–1984) was a French historian and philosopher, associated with the structuralist and post-structuralist movements. He has had wide influence not only (or even primarily) in philosophy but also in a wide range of humanistic and social scientific disciplines.
  • ·         Honest and direct language is better for the society.
  • ·         No such things as positive and negative words.
  • ·         It all depends on context.
